Vim – Tills

When I first stumbled upon Tills on TikTok, she was performing VIM outside various shops and takeaway houses, instantly catching my attention with her captivating presence and raw talent. Now after what seemed like an eternity VIM has finally been released and is available via all major streaming platforms.

The song opens with a powerful line, “It’s a man’s world, but your girl do it better,” setting the stage for an anthem of self-confidence and empowerment. Tills’ lyrics are a testament to resilience and authenticity, delivered with granular detail over an energetic hip-hop beat.

Tills draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists including Avelino, Lady Leshurr, Missy Elliot, and Nelly Furtado, blending elements of rap and R&B with early 2000s nostalgia. Her unique sound acknowledges the nuances and pains of her personal journey, recasting British rap nostalgia for a new generation.

Her musical journey began in childhood, influenced by her music-loving father and her mother’s hustler mentality. After spending part of her youth busking in Melbourne, Tills returned to London, where her passion for performing arts flourished. She joined the hip-hop collective Common Roots, gaining the confidence to embark on a solo career.

Now based in Newham, Tills has gained widespread recognition, including a significant co-sign from Stormzy. Her versatility is evident in her performances, from live band gigs to all-female sound clashes and gripping Red Bull freestyles.

With “VIM,” Tills solidifies her place as a rising star in the music scene. This track is more than just music; it’s a bold declaration of self-worth and empowerment, encouraging listeners to step into their power and express it unapologetically.
