Recipe: Chocolate Chip Cookies

Baking with the kids can be a delightful mess, but it does make for good memories especially with my cheeky Callum. Join me and Cally as we show you how to prepare and bake some delicious chocolate chip cookies.

Step 1: Gather the Essentials (and Your Kid)

● 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
● 1 teaspoon baking soda
● 1 teaspoon salt
● 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
● ¾ cup granulated sugar
● ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
● 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
● 2 large eggs
● 2 cups chocolate chips

Step 2: Preheat the Oven

Set the oven to 375°F (190°C). Make sure you take care of this part as you do not want to cause an injury. I mean I love my Cally but knowing him he would set the heat to supernova just to see what would happen.

Step 3: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, mix 2 ¼ cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt.
Callys “gentle mixing” created a mini flour storm, but we survived so you should be ok to let the kids do this step.

Step 4: Cream Butter and Sugars

In a large bowl, beat together 1 cup softened butter, ¾ cup granulated sugar, and ¾ cup
brown sugar until smooth. Callum took charge of the mixing, a few finger licks were caught but I promised not to do it again.

Step 5: Add Vanilla and Eggs

Mix in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 2 eggs.
Callum’s egg-cracking skills are still a work in progress, a little shell never hurt anyone

Step 6: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Callum decided “gradually” means “all at once,” resulting in a floury explosion.
We managed to mix it all together with only some minor clean up needed

Step 7: Fold in Chocolate Chips

Fold in 2 cups of chocolate chips
(or what’s left after the kids “quality control” taste tests).

Step 8: Scoop time!

Scoop tablespoon-sized dollops of dough into balls on a baking sheet and press down with your palm of hand to form a rough cookie shape. Or you could experiment with different shapes if your feeling adventurous.

Step 9: Lick the Spoon

Now the most important step of all, according to Callum! You grab the spoon and lick it clean, he declared it the best cookie dough ever.

Step 10: Bake the Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is where you definitely have to step in as its time to Bake.
Place the baking tray inside the oven near the middle for 9-11 minutes until your cookies turn a golden brown.

Enjoy!

Remove them bad boys from the oven being careful not to get burnt and leave them to cool. It can be hard to resist but trust me its not only safer to let them cool before tasting but in my opinion at their best once fully set.

Once you feel they are ready to Enjoy be sure to check yourself by cutting one open to ensure they are safe and ready. Good opportunity to grab a bite for yourself!

And there you have it – a quick, easy, and hilariously chaotic baking session with Callum. making delicious, homemade chocolate chip cookies with a side of cheeky giggles. It’s all about the fun, the mess, and the memories. Happy baking
