Young Foolie – Exclusive Interview
Q: Can you tell us a bit about where you’re from, your age, and how your
background has shaped who you are today?
A: I’m from a small Southern town where life is simple but full of stories waiting to be
told. Growing up surrounded by dirt roads, open fields, and strong community ties gave
me a sense of authenticity that I try to channel into my music. I am currently 27 but it isn’t just a
number—it reflects my journey, blending youthful energy with wisdom from my
experiences.
Q: How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your
music before?
A: My sound is like riding down a backroad at sunset—modern country with soulful
undertones and a raw edge. It’s a blend of heartfelt storytelling and a fresh vibe that
feels both nostalgic and new.
Q: Was there a defining moment when you realized music was your true calling?
A: Absolutely. It was during a local open mic night when I saw the way people
connected to my lyrics. That moment of shared emotion made me realize music was
more than just a passion—it was my purpose.
Inspirations and Style
Q: What are some non-musical things that inspire you or make you feel alive?
A: I love four-wheeling, bonfires, and the simple beauty of small-town life. Family and
friendships also play a huge role in keeping me grounded and inspired.
Q: When you’re not creating music, how do you spend your time?
A:Just hanging with the people I love, watching Netflix and I also love finding new ways
to connect with fans online.
Q: Growing up in the South, how did the culture and music around you shape
your artistry?
A: The South gave me my foundation—stories passed down, gospel influences, and the
resilience of small-town life. That culture taught me to be real in my music and to value
family and authenticity.
Q: Do you have a favourite motto that keeps you motivated?
A: “Stay true to your roots, but don’t be afraid to grow.” It reminds me to honor where I
come from while staying open to new possibilities.
Q: How do you feel about the representation of Black artists in the country and
modern crossover genres?
A: I think it’s growing, but there’s still work to do. It’s exciting to see more diverse voices
being heard, and I’m proud to contribute to breaking stereotypes and opening doors for
others.
Q: Your cowgirl vibe is so refreshing—what inspired this aspect of your style?
A: It’s who I’ve always been! I grew up embracing Southern culture and country
aesthetics. It’s not just a style—it’s a reflection of my life and values.
Q: What’s the story behind your artist name, “Young Foolie”? Does it hold any
special significance?
A: “Young Foolie” represents staying youthful and fearless, even when chasing dreams
feels uncertain. It’s a reminder to embrace the fun and unpredictable side of life. I Know
when people hear my name, being a country artist, they may be like .. “what? I don’t
want to hear country music from someone with that name” but when they actually listen
to my music they fall in love with it as well as my voice. That’s why you never judge a
book by its cover.
Q: If you weren’t making music, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
A: Probably something creative— working with my hands in some kind of craft. I’m also
a tech geek so I would most likely be working in tech or music business for a major
company.
Q: If you had to describe your music in three words, what would they be?
A: Authentic, heartfelt, and adventurous.
Q: What’s your favourite thing about being part of the Southern music scene?
A: The sense of community and support. Everyone’s rooting for each other, and the
stories feel so genuine.
Q: Tell us one thing that nobody knows about you?
A: I have social media anxiety. It may sound crazy but it’s hard for me to just record
myself and talk to a camera. I get tongue tied and my brain just gets all jumbled up.
Q: Your blend of modern country and soul is so unique—how did you find this
lane for yourself?
A: It came naturally from my influences growing up. I used to rap before transitioning
into country but I wanted to create something that felt true to my Southern roots while
honouring the soul and energy of other genres I love.
Q: Who are some of the artists or albums that have influenced your style the
most?
A: Definitely Morgan Wallen and Zack Bryan for their storytelling, but also classics like
Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, and Adele for their emotional depth.
Q: What would you consider to be the main music genres your music fits into?
A: Modern country with touches of folk, melodic rap and southern rock.
Q: Your lyrics feel deeply personal—where do you draw inspiration from when
writing?
A: Real-life experiences—mine and those I see around me. Every heartbreak, triumph,
and quiet moment finds its way into my songs.
Q: When you sit down to create a new song, where do you usually start—lyrics,
melody, or something else?
A: It usually starts with a melody or a phrase that’s been stuck in my head, and the
lyrics come soon after.
Q: What’s your studio vibe like? Do you have any rituals or must-haves when
recording?
A: It’s laid-back but focused. I need some good energy, a bottle of water, dark or
neon/LED lights before diving in.
Q: Can you break down a favourite track of yours, what inspired it, and how it
came to life?
A: My latest track “Losing Game” is one of my favourite’s. It’s about the bittersweet realization that not
every love is meant to last, inspired by a personal experience that taught me to grow
stronger.
Q: Do you ever get writer’s block, and if so, how do you push through it?
A: All the time. I usually step away, take a walk, or revisit the melody.
Your Musical Journey
Q: If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and
why?
A: I’d love to collaborate with Zach Bryan. His ability to write these emotional stories to
where you can actually see it happening it’s truly a gift, it would be such an inspiration to
work alongside.
Q: What was the first song or project you ever released, and what does it mean to
you now?
A: The first track I released was “Battlefield.” It was the first song I ever released as a
solo rap artist. It’s really a gem, it was so emotional because I was talking about how
someone so close to me never wanted to see me succeed even though they pretend to.
It still holds a special place in my heart.
Q: Have there been moments when you doubted yourself? How did you overcome
them?
A: Of course. Doubt creeps in, especially when chasing a dream that feels bigger than
you. I overcame it by focusing on the reason I started—connecting with people through
music. I also take a look back and see how far I’ve come from when I started.
Q: Can you share a breakthrough moment in your career where you felt you had
levelled up as an artist?
A: It was actually recently when I went viral on TikTok for my song “Small Town”. It
couldn’t have come at a better time.
Q: As a young Black artist in the country and crossover space, how do you
navigate carving out your place?
A: By staying authentic and unapologetic about who I am. Representation matters, and I
hope my journey inspires others to break barriers and follow their dreams.
Q: Have there been any challenges or setbacks that shaped your growth along
the way?
A: Balancing the business side of music with creativity has been a challenge. It taught
me the importance of building a strong team and staying focused on my vision.
Q: What’s been the most surreal or rewarding moment of your musical journey so
far?
A: Hearing my song played on the radio for the first time. It was a dream come true and
a reminder that hard work pays off.
Q: How do you balance staying true to your roots while also innovating in your
genre?
A: By blending the stories and values I grew up with into fresh sounds and ideas that
push boundaries. Staying grounded while embracing evolution is key.
Live Performances and Fans
Q: Do you perform live? If yes, how do you feel when performing live?
A: Since transitioning into Country Music I haven’t been blessed yet to perform live. But
I have performed live and I love it! There’s nothing like the energy of a crowd and
sharing those moments in real time. It’s exhilarating and humbling all at once.
Q: What’s your connection with your audience like in those moments on stage?
A: It’s deeply personal. I try to make every person in the crowd feel seen and
connected, like we’re all sharing the same story.
Q: What’s the weirdest or funniest thing that’s happened to you during a gig or
while making music?
A: Once, during a gig, I messed up a lyric but I don’t think anyone noticed because they
were too busy enjoying the music lol!
Q: Do you have a dream venue or festival you’d love to play at someday?
A: The Grand Ole Opry. It’s such an iconic stage with so much history—I’d be honoured
to stand where so many legends have performed.
Q: Can you share a memorable story from a performance or a fan interaction?
A: A fan once told me my song inspired them and told me that they felt like I was
speaking to them because they felt every word in my song and they didn’t feel alone.
Knowing my music could provide comfort during someone’s hard times was incredibly
moving.
Q: If you could only listen to three albums for the rest of your life, which ones
would they be and why?
A: One Thing At A Time by Morgan Wallen, 25 by Adele, and Last lap by Rod Wave.
Each brings something unique—raw stories, soulful vibes, and unmatched
musicianship.
Q: If you could create a soundtrack for any movie, past or present, which one
would it be?
A: I don’t really have a movie in mind but I do wish I could have had some part in the tv
show Nashville. If they ever decide to bring that back I hope they give me a call!
Q: What’s a memory or moment in your life that really shaped your perspective as
an artist?
A: Losing someone close to me made me realize how precious and fleeting life is. It
drives me to put my all into everything I create.
Q: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself through
music?
A: I’ve learned that I’m stronger than I thought. Music has shown me how resilient and
adaptable I can be in the face of challenges.
Q: Do you play any instruments, or are there any you’d like to learn?
A: I play drums and a little piano, but I’d love to learn guitar—it’s such a emotional
instrument.
Q: How do you see your music evolving in the next few years?
A: I see it becoming even more experimental while staying true to my roots. I want to
push boundaries and explore collaborations across genres.
Q: Are there any upcoming projects or releases we should keep an ear out for?
A: Definitely! I’m working on a new EP that dives deeper into my journey—it’s my most
personal project yet.
Q: What’s one thing you hope people take away when they listen to your music?
A: I hope they feel seen and understood, like they’re not alone in their struggles or
triumphs.
Q: What’s your biggest dream or goal as an artist?
A: To inspire people and make music that stands the test of time. Playing the Grand Ole
Opry and winning a Grammy wouldn’t hurt either!
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring artists trying to find their way?
A: Be authentic, stay consistent, and don’t let fear hold you back. Your unique voice is
your greatest asset—own it.
Q: Is there anything that you want to share that has not already been covered
above?
A: Just a huge thank-you to everyone who’s supported me so far. This journey wouldn’t
be the same without you!
